Of course you need an internet connection. How else is the device going to receive commands.

Of course the installation is involved. I can understand that some people may get confused - but honestly - you must realize what the developers at Our Pact have created is no easy feat. We have tried just about every parental control app available all to our dissatisfaction. That is the monitoring of which web sites the child goes to as well as the monitoring of text messages and whatnot.

Well done! Thank you for all of your effort and hard work!

What an amazing review. We just circulated this around the office for the whole team to see, it's feedback like this that keeps our team working hard day in and day out. Thank you so much for your honest take on OurPact, and genuine appreciation! This certainly is a challenging space, but we do our best to keep the app as simple and user-friendly as possible. We're so, so happy that we have helped you and your family balance tech. Thank YOU for your support, and for joining us in our mission to keep screens in their place.

We tried for almost a year to get our teen to regulate her own phone usage to no avail.

After many fights and having to remove the actual phone at bedtime we heard of this app. It will simply stop working. I opened my Facebook app, and clicked a link to an article that someone shared.

I got a message within the Facebook app that it was restricted. I then tried a game app, Words with Friends. This was still within the app, not Safari. So seems like the internet restrictions will work from within apps — at least the ones I tried! In another app, an ad that I clicked was not a weblink, but a link to the App store for a related app. That did work, since it was not a true web link. This is where app restrictions settings would then kick in.

Is there still no way to do this on the iPad? Question about blocking contacts. Do you know if there is a way to restrict that from happening? With that restriction set I could still unblock someone. Can we block a specific website on ipad mini, like webcam chats or is there anyway to block webcam altogether but still be able to use camera for pictures?

You can block a specific web site if you know the URL web address. In terms of blocking the webcam altogether, you can block FaceTime since it is part of the iOS, but still allow the Camera. This is done in Restrictions settings. I suppose you could delete those apps, and then restrict installing other apps if that was a concern. If I restrict imessage on my Childs iPhone can the restriction be deleted by restoring the phone? This is a nightmare: I spent hours to fine-tune all the restrictions described in this fine article and then the next day, as I try to make a quick update, I realized that deactivating the restrictions just wiped out everything I configured previously!

I only can emphasize this! How stupid is this by Apple? Or is it by intention to hinder you to share your iOS device with your family and push you to buy each one his own? This pitfall is the same in each version since restrictions were introduced first. I would like one for him to have in order to unlock the iPad a 1st defense for thieves and a second for me to restrict websites, etc. Yes you can absolutely do that and it is recommended! Use a pass code that he knows for unlocking the iPad, but use a different code for the restrictions settings that only you know. Thank you for answering so quickly!

How do I go about doing that? GPS alone cannot be used to track someone, despite what one million TV cop shows tell us. If they have an iPhone and an iPad, for example, you can make suer location is shared from the iPhone. You can also choose which family members can see their location. In the case of a kid, you might want to let parents, and brothers and sisters all see the data.

Although this might make games of hide and seek rather short. The most obvious way to track your offspring is to open up the Find My Friends app. When you launch this app, it shows you a map, with pulsing dots showing the location of anyone who has allowed you to stalk them. You can also check locations from within the Messages app. If you do it in a shared thread, you will see everyone who has enabled location sharing from their own device. One day your child will lose their iPhone.

Step one is to download the Find My iPhone app to your own device. Launch it, and sign into your iCloud account your Apple ID , if prompted. Some of these will have green dots next to them, shooing that they are online, and sharing their location. Tap their iPhone on the screen of your own device, and then tap Actions , and then Play Sound. Even if their iPhone is set to silent, it will still play a pulsing alert. Follow the sound until you track it down. If their iPhone is elsewhere, the you should put it on Lost Mode.

This will lock it, and you can track its location, if available. If all else is lost, then you should tap Erase Phone. This will wipe all personal data from the lost iPhone, but it will also switch off all tracking, so you will never find it. Kids love iPhones and iPad, so you may as well use this obsession to sneakily keep tabs on their whereabouts, as well as helping you to lose the iPhone when they inevitably lose it.
